The old adage says, “ It is better to give than to receive.” What joy we experience buying gifts for children and watching their excited faces as they open them. However, many families in our community do not get to experience this joy at Christmas.

A story from the Christmas Village Toy Store …

Trina is a widowed mom of three. She struggles to make ends meet even with having two jobs. Last year she worried how she would buy presents for her children at Christmas. There were no more hours in her day to get a third job. A co-worker gave Trina a ticket to the “Christmas Village Toy Store”. It was explained to her that she would be able to buy new presents for her children at more than half off the retail price! It seemed too good to be true.

Trina arrived at the “Christmas Village Toy Store” not really knowing what to expect, but quickly realized what it was all about. She was so excited that she would be able to buy presents this year after all. There were even some toys on her children’s “wish list”.

Trina walked into the Christmas Village Toy Store heavy hearted, but hopeful and walked out, grateful and renewed!

Purpose

The Christmas Village Toy Store is a purposeful community centered Toy Store created to support and encourage at risk, low-income families. Last year we collected over 7,500 new toys for the store. Families were invited to shop for their children and were provided an opportunity to purchase new toys at a greatly reduced cost.

In addition to providing Christmas for these families, the proceeds from the store will go towards collegiate scholarships to deserving inner city youth and sponsoring a summer camp for homeless children.
